This is why I still need a mother at 23 years old.
So I had strep and a sinus infection over the weekend (so upsetting,) and I have been on antibiotics for several days now. I just made it back to the dance studio where I work. This is a real life conversation that took place.
A few of the student's moms asked me how I was feeling. I responded that while the symptoms of strep and the pain in my sinuses have almost all gone away, I am now facing the horrible ick that is amoxicillin. :(. Terrible, gut wrenching, awful. I shouldn't be allowed to operate heavy machinery, or answer any questions. I went from sore throat to all encompassing fog that won't let me go.
It was then that this sweet group of women, more experienced in life than I, informed me of another awful side effect of antibiotics. Yeast infections. Yes, I said it. The worst.
I had heard of it happening to a few people, but I had no idea it was "a thing." They began to give me lists of helpful tips to try, and I will leave you with some in case you are female and ever on antibiotics:
1. Chug yogurt. A lot of it. Constantly. (Preferably the lemon flavored Yoplait. This is not an ad, they just really like that flavor.)
2. Probiotic Gummies
3. Kefir? Kimchi? (Just kidding I just googled those and they were funny words.)
Now I am not an antibiotic veteran, so I couldn't believe it when at least four or five moms came out of the woodwork to warn me of this ridiculous side effect. Why should we have to deal with a whole other terrible issue just to fix the one we had in the first place?
I was starting to get nervous. I could feel the yeast rising inside of me... get it? Lol. When an MVP of a mother offered me the greatest solution. She ran to the store and bought me some probiotics.
Thank you, dance moms, you never let me down.
